CLAY QUILT
2024
In May of 2024, Hillary Wagner was invited by Sister Cities International (SCI) to participate in a short term artist residency at the Yingge Ceramics Museum in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The trip was led by artist and professor, Kirk Mayhew, and also served as a pilot program for a future SCI artist exchange program between New Taipei City and Cincinnati, OH.
The work, Clay Quilt, is the product of Wagner's time at the Yingge Ceramics Museum. Clay Quilt is constructed of 100 clay tiles. When the clay was still wet, Wagner took impressions from surfaces while walking in each sister city, Cincinnati and New Taipei City. After firing, Wagner sewed the tiles together, as though a quilt.
